African 'Day to Create'
We had a fantastic day yesterday! It was great to see 1G wearing all of the wonderful tie dye t shirts they had made, they are so colourful! We had lots to do yesterday...we made clay animals, decorated paper necklaces, used chalk to create lovely animal pictures and even had a go of some instruments! We enjoyed using our newly decorated yard and even had time for a biscuit and a lolly ice! It was a great day filled with music, fun and smiles!
Fruit tasting - June 2022
Today we tasted lots of different fruit! Our book for this week has been 'Handa's Surprise' so 1G tried the different fruits from this book. They included passion fruit, mango, pineapple, avocado, oranges, tangerines and pomegranate seeds! 1G did so well and tried all of the fruit, there were lots of mixed opinions and we all had a great time.
Art/DT - June 2022
Today we talked about what we have already learnt in Topic. We then made an African Savanna, drew African animals and made fact cards about different animals. We also had a great time doing our tie dye, 1G's tie dye t shirts look so colourful!
Jubilee Party - May 2022
We had a great day for our Jubilee party! We decorated biscuits, had party food and dancing. We then performed for lots of our parents and families, well done 1G!
Maths - May 2022
We have been looking at halves and wholes this week. 1G had to split a shape into 2 halves and then played a game of memory where they had to match up the two halves of a shape and see who was the winner! We had a great time!
Maths - May 2022
We looked at making equal groups today in Maths. We shared counters between 2 groups and then did the same with chocolate...we even had some of the chocolate as a treat!!
School Trip - May 2022
We all had a brilliant day out today. We visited the Walker Art Gallery where we looked at different pieces of art and sketched some of our own. We learnt some facts about St Georges Hall and then made out way to the museum. There we completed a continents treasure map and learnt about the continents on different floors of the museum. We had a lovely picnic lunch together and had a look around the aquarium. What a great day!
Art - May 2022
We made beautiful blossom tree pictures today using paints and vegetables! We printed blossom leaves with broccoli, cauliflower and potatoes and used our knowledge from last week of 'mixing colours' to create light/pastel colours for the blossom. Well done 1G!
Maths - May 2022
We looked at arrays in Maths today. We talked about 'rows' and 'columns' and what they meant and looked like. 1G had a go of creating their own arrays from given instructions, they have worked so hard!
Science - May 2022
We are looking at 'weather' in Science. We went outside to discuss what the current weather was like and used lots of lovely vocabulary! We then talked about the changes in the weather through different seasons and made our own collages from Spring/Summer images.
Maths - April 2022
We looked at equal groups today in Maths. We looked at examples of objects in equal groups and unequal groups, talked about what this vocabulary means and had a go at creating our own equal groups using different objects. 1G had to also roll the dice and decide if the 2 numbers of each dice were equal or not.
IPads - April 2022
1G enjoyed our 'Unplugged' lesson today. We talked about coding and giving clear instructions. We looked at our coding blocks and created algorithms and even had a go at creating a real life algorithm for Miss Gowland and some children to follow! We used directional language such as forwards, backwards, left, right and turn.
Art - April 2022
We looked at the artwork of Andy Warhol today. We talked about how he uses different colours in his artwork and we had a go at creating one of our own pieces of art based on his work. We then experimented with colours and mixed paints to see what different colours we could make!
Music - April 2022
We had a great time in Music today. We used our glockenspiels to learn the opening verse of a new song, using the notes C,D,G and E. 1G listened well and tried hard!
Art - March 2022
As we have been reading 'Jack and the Beanstalk' this week, today 1G have been sketching a beanstalk in art. We then ripped up some tissue paper to decorate the beanstalks. What a creative class!
Science - Materials (continued)
We talked about the story of the 3 little pigs today and discussed how each of their houses were made from different materials. We talked about how each material was best suited for building the pigs house and why. We then made our own houses using straw, sticks and Lego (bricks) and discussed their properties.

In Science, we have been looking at materials and their properties. We discussed which materials we thought were magnetic and tested these out.
Topic - Science
Today we learnt all about Victorian homes and what they were like. We talked about what objects we can see in Victorian homes and compared these to what we find in our homes today! We discussed how electricity changes the way we live, what Victorian families did for fun and how our homes change through time.
Maths - March 2022
We have been using balancing scales in Maths today. We have been talking about mass, using vocab such as 'lighter than' 'heavier than' and 'compare'. We found different objects in our classroom and measured them, using the lovely vocabulary we have learnt today!
Science - March 2022
We had a practical Science lesson today. We talked about different materials and their properties along with what objects may be made from these materials.
Topic - March 2022
Today we learnt about Victorian homes in History. We looked at what different rooms in Victorian homes looked like and how they differ from our homes today. We enjoyed working together and discussing what we could see in different pictures of these homes.
Red Nose Day - March 2022
We had a great Red Nose Day! We enjoyed coming to school in our own clothes, we designed our own red noses and made posters. We even decorated some cakes and played a game - 1G had to pick up a marshmallow that was resting on whipped cream...without using their hands! We had lots of laughs today!
Maths - March 2022
We had a great practical lesson today. We used cubes, our hands and pens (all as forms of non standard measurement) to measure things around out classroom. We again discussed what 'non standard' measurement means and what it looks like. 1G enjoyed this activity and worked really hard.

Today we have talked about measurement in Maths. We learnt lots of new vocabulary and talked about what these words mean. We practiced using words such as 'taller' 'shorter' 'shortest' 'longer' 'compare' and used these in sentences. 1G had a go at making a line from the shortest children to the tallest children. 1G have worked so hard today!
World Book Day
We have had a brilliant day today. We have seen lots of great characters and lots of great costumes. We designed a book cover of our own, talked about our favourite stories and read a new Julia Donaldson book that we have not read before.
Maths - March 2022
Today we had a great maths afternoon. We looked at ordering numbers and used lots of lovely vocabulary such as ‘greater than’ ‘less than’ ‘equal to’. We created equation using these symbols and ordered numbers to 50.
Science - February 2022
Today, we talked about different materials and their properties. We discussed what different materials are used for and described materials and objects on our tables. 1G already knew lots about materials!
Drama workshop - February 2022
We had a great time in our Singing Mermaid drama workshop. We pretended to walk on the high wire, made our own ocean sounds and acted out being different sea creatures. 1G really enjoyed this workshop!
Express Yourself Day - January 2022
We had a great day on Friday for 'express yourself' day, we saw lots of wonderful own clothes and costumes. We talked about what makes us unique and how we are all different.
Paired reading - January 2022
We had a lovely time reading a chapter from our Peter Pan books today. 1G did very well following along and reading the words, turning over the pages at the right time and listened so well to the story!
Topic - January 2022
Today, we have been learning about Neil Armstrong and his life. We talked about why he became famous and learnt facts about him. We compared how clothes, transport and toys differed from Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong.
Maths - January 2022
Another practical lesson today! We talked about counting forwards and backwards within 50. We used our 100 squares to count forwards or backwards from a given number.

We had a practical maths lesson today. We consolidated our number bonds using part whole models and counters. We used out 'quick maths' to work out the number bonds up to 10 and 20.
Science - January 2022
We had a lovely time in Science today. We talked about the different animals and their features they have to help them to survive. We then put the different animals into groups, e.g mammals, amphibians etc.

We have had fun in maths today. We looked at subtraction using number lines. 1G worked so hard and enjoyed this maths lesson!
National Winnie the Pooh Day - January 2022
Today we celebrated National Winnie the Pooh day. The children brought their teddies into school, we found out about the History of Winnie the Pooh and we even began making our own puppets to celebrate this day!

We have had a great party day!! We played party games, had party food and even dancing!

Santa and reindeer visit - December 2021
We had a visit from Santa and his reindeers this week. We found out lots of facts about reindeers and asked lots of questions too! We spoke to Santa and he even gave everyone a present! We have had a lovely time this week and had lots of treats!
North Pole Breakfast - December 2021
We had great fun at our North Pole breakfast this morning. We had lovely food, pictures to colour in and Christmas songs!!
RE - November 2021
We had a lovely time in RE. We talked about Christmas and had a go at freeze frames which were lots of fun!

Today we looked at shape. We learnt about different 3D shapes and used them in a practical which we all enjoyed! We are looking forward to learning more about shape this week.

We compared sums today. We had to work out the sums and decide which one was bigger and used our greater and less than signs to show this.

We have had great fun making our maths monster. We have collected our data in class and our monster represents the data of children in 1G.

We have been using number lines to subtract today. We talked about where we start on a number line and how many 'jumps' we should do, depending on what we are subtracting.
Art - November 2021
We have made some lovely firework paintings today. We learnt about Jackson Pollack and his artwork and used marbles and paint to create lovely artwork. Well done 1G!
Maths - November 2021
We have been using part whole models in Maths today. We have been looking at finding a 'part' of a number using the 'whole' number that was 10. The children had to put a certain number of counters in one part and then work out how many counters needed to be in the other part to make the whole number. E.g if 5 counters were put in one part, the children worked out that 5 counters had to be put in the other part as 5+5 = 10 and 2 parts added together make a whole.

Science - October 2021
We had great fun with our taste experiment today. We tasted lemon, chocolate, jam and crisps. We tasted them and had to pick the adjective that best describes that food.
Library Visit - October 2021
We had a visitor in school today to talk to the children about libraries. She talked about how we can enjoy reading in a library but also about how we can take books home to read if we have a library card. We even listened to her reading some of her favourite books!
Topic - October 2021
Today in Topic, we have learnt about islands. We read different books and discussed some facts about islands. 1G are so clever and knew lots about islands!!
Autumn Walk - October 2021
We enjoyed a lovely Autumn walk this morning. We collected lots of different leaves which we are looking forward to sketching next week. We used our different senses to look what was around us and listened to what we could hear. We spoke about the season of Autumn and the changes we can see such as falling leaves.
Science - October 2021
Today we have used our sense of smell to complete a smell experiment. We smelt 5 different things that had been covered in tin foil and had to guess what they were. We had great fun!
National Poetry Day 2021
We talked about poems today and different features they have. We read 'The Nut Tree' by Julia Donaldson and enjoyed spotting the rhyming words. We even thought of some of our own rhyming words.

We have been looking at part whole models in Maths this week. We have had fun doing practical lessons by seeing how many combinations we can make to split the 'whole' into 'parts'.

We did a touch experiment in Science today. We felt different materials and picked an adjective to best describe that material.

We used our ears today to complete a listening experiment in Science. We listened to sounds around us and played bingo with the sounds we listened to.

We have learnt all about Kandinsky today. We have created artwork based on his style using different resources such as pastels and pencils. The children worked hard on their artwork!

We have had great fun today in music. We learnt different notes on our glockenspiel and practiced using our voices to match the notes that we played!
