At Booker Avenue Infant School, the mental health and well-being of our children is incredibly important because it directly impacts the children’s ability to learn, interact with peers, and navigate the challenges of growing up. When children have strong mental health, they are better equipped to manage stress, develop positive relationships, and maintain focus on their learning. Poor mental health can hinder academic performance, contribute to behavioural issues, and affect overall well-being.
At Booker Avenue Infant School, we use the Zones of Regulation framework designed to help children understand and manage their emotions, leading to better emotional regulation and mental health. It categorises emotions into four colour-coded zones, making it easier for children to recognise how they feel and what strategies they can use to regulate their emotions. Integrating this framework with characters from Winne the Pooh allows children to visualise their state of emotion in an age related way. The Framework is delivered through weekly circle time and MHEWB Assemblies that encourages the children to understand their own and others emotions and help them to regulate and develop coping strategies.

At Booker Avenue We Believe in the power of music. We use it as a tool in promoting children's health and well-being. Its impact is profound because it engages multiple aspects of a child’s development; emotional, cognitive, social, and physical, whilst also providing a creative outlet for self-expression. Music offers children an outlet to express emotions that may be difficult to articulate with words. Whether through listening to music or creating it themselves, we provide our children with many opportunities to connect with and process their feelings in this healthy way. These opportunities include:
In our school entrance we have a Parent/Carer resource area where you will find information on a variety of subjects.
Below are some resources that may be useful to support your family's emotional health, as well as your own. Some resources will help to open up conversations around the range of emotions we are all feeling and give us strategies to cope.
As new resources become available we will add them to this section.
