Task
How many items can you find that weigh 500g?
If you do not have scales. Look at items of food etc in your cupboards. Take a picture of the items or draw them.
Extension
Now try the same activity for items that are 1kg.
Make sure you don’t confuse this with capacity/liquids which we measure in mililitres and litres.
-Following on from the last task. You now have an idea of how much things weigh around the house.
Choose between 5 and 10 items from around the house. For example a toy, an apple, a small pot etc.
Have a go at estimating (guessing) the weight and write it down. If you have scales, check by weighing to see if you were correct. If it is tricky, ask an adult to help you read the scale.
If you do not have scales at home,do not worry. Please order the items from lightest to heaviest and draw them in that order into your book. Alternatively, take a picture.
Are you a maths whizz? Can you complete our maths challenge? (see link three)
