Through Year 1 as a class we will visit lots of activities that support our counting in 2s. This video is a great resource as it refers to evens numbers when counting in 2s.
We are also learning to count in 5s. This video gives a great hint. The number either ends with a 5 or a 0. Who can reach the moon first?
Counting by 10s is an important part of maths in Year 1. This simple song can further support your child's learning.

1K are learning about themselves and their senses. Today we found this video useful and informative.
Phonics is tricky to cover. The children have phonics everyday to support their reading. Alphablocks is a great resource to deliver phonics in a fun way. The children love watching it. If you find a sound that is troubling your child during reading etc you can search for sound with Alphablocks and it may help your little one at home.
We are currently learning the order of the months of the year. To reinforce this understanding the children may enjoy this active song as they continue to practise the order.

We have been looking at these 3 diagraphs (2 letters that join to make 1 sound) that all make the same sound. I have found that the children are engaged with this video and it supports their understanding. Enjoy.

The children are now looking at phase 4 phonics in class. This song is a brilliant tool to help the children remember the spellings of these tricky words to hopefully use in their independent writing.
1K are doing so well learning their phonic sounds that we have now completed phase 5 and are focusing on refreshing and applying the sounds we have learnt. This phase 5 video helps you hear the sound and apply.
This is a round up of the Phase 5 sounds we have covered in class. In 1K we are very clever so we know that ew, ue and u_e can make either a short (oo) sound or a longer (you) sound.
'ure' is a tricky phonic trigraph that a lot of the children have trouble with. This video is sang with a american accent but the children enjoy it and it gives them important examples of the sound being used. Enjoy.

We have started using mindfulness techniques every day in 1K. This is an example of one the tools we use. We try to use the term mind space as well as its about a time for the children to clear their minds and just be for a while. It is a work in progress but we have got off to a great start.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
