At Booker Avenue Infant School, the development of reading, writing and oracy skills are at the forefront of all of our teaching. We understand that oracy underpins the children's development in reading and writing, and it is therefore given the highest priority in our school. The children are immersed into a rich language environment where developing communication and language skills is the focus in every learning experience. Children learn to read using the Jolly Phonics/Grammar scheme. This is a multi-sensory approach that engages all children. As the children progress with their reading, they develop their skills in handwriting, letter formation, sentence structure, punctuation, grammar and their understanding of different genres.
