Numeracy

Year 2 are busy Mathematician and this year we have looked at Maths included in our Recovery Curriculum but also some challenges that Year Two Maths holds for them.

We have looked at number bonds to 10, 20, 30 etc. so they can support the children when they deal with larger numbers as they grow. Some children have experimented beyond this but only if they are secure with the other number bonds.

For example if a child is sure that 3 + 7 = 10 just as 7 + 3 = 10 then they will be equally sure that 33 + 17 = 50.  We can use number bonds a lot of different ways.  If 7 + 3 = 10 then 10 - 3 = 7 just as 10 - 7 = 3.   There are so many fun activities surrounding number bonds online in ICT games (link below) and YouTube.

Year 2 also looked at Place Value. The children compare and order numbers from 1 to 100  They will recognise the place value of two-digit numbers, and will be able to use this to solve problems.

Also visit the LCQM page in our curriculum section. Scroll down and you will find lots of maths links to great websites for both children and grown ups to enjoy. Just click on the link below. Have fun!

The children also love Supermovers.
