We are keen mathematicians in Year 1. We use concrete resources to support our discoveries.
In school we follow White Rose Maths which gives us different objectives each week - please find link below. White Rose Maths provides a video with the learning for the day with examples of activities. The children love to be challenged by Miss Rose (as we call her) in class.
In year 1 we are always working on retaining our number bonds to 10 and then 20. Please find links below involving NB activities.
Place value is central to our maths lessons in Year 1. Please find PV activities in the links below.
Please find below doubling and halving resources attached. When halving the children can use resources to split numbers in half. Lego is a super resource to use as concrete resources.
2D & 3D shape knowledge is important in Year 1. We work towards our children to be able to name said shapes and be able to count their sides and corners. Please find shape mats below.
Quick Activities.
Roll a dice twice - child then add both numbers together ( There is a number line and number square attached to help our children add numbers and subtract).
Go on a shape hunt around your home - How many squares can you see?
Ask mathematical questions - How many legs does a chair have? How many legs do two chairs have altogether?
Count in 1s to 10/20 . . . .then can you count backwards to zero.
Can you count in 2s, 5s and 10s.
Split a piece of paper in 2 - write even numbers on one side then even numbers on the other.
