Phonics

The teaching of Jolly Phonics and Jolly Grammar runs throughout the Year 1 school day. We draw our children's attention to letters (graphemes) and sounds (phonemes) in all lessons then we have two time-tabled phonic sessions a day.

Phonics can be a daunting subject to deliver at home. First of all anything our families do with their children is fantastic. Your child will know a lot of the sounds (phonemes) you will encounter and will enjoy practising them with you. Here are lots of different resources to support your child's phonic knowledge. During Jolly Phonics children learn actions and songs relating to each separate sound.

Links to our Jolly Phonics teaching techniques can be found on our Reading at Booker Page.

CVC (consonant/vowel/consonant) and CVCC(consonant/vowel/consonant/consonant) words are super practise for our children to blend and spell correctly. Again see below to various resources for our children to practise reading, saying and writing CVC/CVCC words.

We also provide out children with nonsense/alien words to help them further practise the phonemes (sounds) they learn in class. Links to these nonsense words are available below.
