This week Year 2 have taken a delve into microhabitats in our local environment. We found out that a microhabitat is very small part of a habitat such as a clump of grass, under fallen leaves or under a rock. We looked around our own school yard and found a number of microhabitats that were housing some interesting mini beasts such as wood lice, spiders, worms and ants.
In English we have enjoyed reading the wonderful story Gorilla by Anthony Browne. We have begun to immerse ourselves in the features of newspaper articles and look forward to creating our own newspaper article linked to Gorilla.
As part of our Jungle topic, Year 2 have looked at the features of mangroves, in particular the tidal mangroves of Indonesia. We have also enjoyed discovering the artwork of Henry Rosseau, focusing on the painting Tiger in a Tropical Storm. Inspired by this, we sketched leaves focusing on their shape and texture.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
