To Space and Beyond! - Whatever Next by Jill Murphy
This week Baby Bear invited us on his journey to visit the moon. Having found a box, a colander and a pair of wellies hidden in our Storybox, we were ready for the off! But would a cardboard box make it all the way to the moon?
NASA were confident that RB could create a rocket worthy of space travel and RB set about designing and creating their own rockets using their knowledge of 2D shapes and 3D solids. We began our rocket designs using flat 2D shapes. However, we soon realised that flat shapes would not be 'fit for purpose', as the astronauts could not fit it! 3D solids were the only way forward. Using junk modelling materials, the children created some amazing rockets, naming and explaining the use of different 3D solids for different aspects of their space ships. It turned out that cylinders made excellent rocket boosters!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
