At Booker Avenue Infant School we use a range of reading schemes that cover a breadth of genres in order to develop skills in language fluency, comprehension and the ability to form opinions on the texts they are reading.
We use the Jolly Phonics programme in EYFS. This is a fast paced, synthetic approach that ensures all children have access to high quality phonics, beginning when they first start in Reception. In Key Stage One, we compliment the Jolly Phonics approach with the Letters and Sounds Documents.
Maths in EYFS is taught following the Hamilton Trust scheme; a practical approach that focuses on the specific areas of learning number and numerical patterns
In Key Stage One, our lessons are taught with a Mastery approach and we follow White Rose Maths. Adopting a White Rose Maths approach to teaching means we are able to ensure all children have the same opportunities to learn and the support they need to fully grasp concepts.
We believe that by using and adopting planning and approaches by several schemes, we have been able to tailor a curriculum to meet the needs of the children in our school whilst providing them with a well-balanced and rounded education.
