Our topic in science this half term is materials. We have looked at different materials and discussed what they are used for and why some materials are chosen for certain purposes over other materials. Today we carried out an experiment to find out which material would protect an egg when we dropped it from a short height. We discussed what a fair test meant and we also identified that we needed to carry out a 'control' test. We placed an egg in a plastic bag and dropped this out of the window as a control. After this we wrapped our eggs in 1 layer of either bubblewrap, tin foil, wool or in a rubber balloon and carried out the same test. We knew that we could only use 1 layer of each material for it to be a fair test.
Many of 2P thought that the bubblewrapped egg would survive but sadly, like all the others, this smashed too. After the experiment the children decided that it may be more successful to use a different material or add more layers of the same material.
